About
The Climate Advocacy Institute provides training for tomorrow’s leaders in tools that help them to promote discussion of issues that are important to them and their communities, and to advocate for positive change.
This year’s Institute will concentrate on the critical issue of climate change. At 350.org our mission is to build an international campaign dedicated to create a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis – the solutions that science and justice demand. All students will take part in The Climate Leadership Workshop facilitated by 350.org and their training partners on the following topics:
- Public Narrative, Organizing and Leadership: We will run several sessions on how to acquire the critical leadership skills that are essential for effective campaign development, organizing and movement building. We will focus on public narrative, presenting a powerful argument or strategy, which is a crucial skill for advocacy.
- Climate Policy and Public Narrative: Why is the number 350 so important? Setting 350 as a target and informing the policy-makers, institutions, NGOs, etc. that are still supporting outdated targets is an important goal. After going over the facts about climate change, and its effects on our region, we will discuss how to use our individual impact to influence government’s climate policies.
- Solutions and Spreading the Word: This year’s climate summit in Copenhagen, Denmark in December is an excellent opportunity to make the world’s decision makers pay attention to the most recent target: 350 ppm. We will talk about the solutions, how to bring back the carbon emission to 350 and lower, and how we can engage people into activism to create a global treaty that all governments can agree to. With your help we can spread this important piece of information to our fellow citizens, communities, countries, and the world.
- Campaign Strategy: In the Climate Leadership Workshop we will share with you successful campaigning strategies and lessons we have learned during our 350 campaigns. We will discuss the ways to translate local actions into a larger, international strategy: Raising Awareness and Driving Behavioral Change, Creating a Media Moment, Pioneering Online Advocacy, Making the Invisible Visible, and more…
Our mission is to build a global campaign to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis. The international day of climate change, October 24, is our last chance to influence the governments’ climate policies before Copenhagen. The Climate Leadership Workshop aims to prepare the participants to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis and to participate in this global movement against climate change.
In addition, students will choose from three tracks of study:

- Journalism & New Media for Advocacy – Trainers will include Michael Silberman of EchoDitto, and the Tactical Technology Collective

Students wishing to improve their English communication skills can choose our English as a Foreign Language track.
