Getting to London
Flying in to London
Any of the four major airports, Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted or Luton, will land you in easy reach of London; though Heathrow is probably closest and has the best transport links. Luton has the worst.
You can get into town no matter what time of the day or night you arrive, though land in the early hours and you’ll be relying on bus transport and not the super-speedy express trains from Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted.
In terms of cost, the tube (our word for the underground/subway/metro) will be cheapest, though that’s only available from Heathrow. The bus comes next, followed by the train. If there are four of you it might not that be much more expensive to get a taxi. Expect to pay £70 for a cab from Heathrow and more from the other airports. The train costs between £15 and £22 for a single journey. The bus around £10. The tube £5.
Eurostar
The Eurostar arrives at St Pancreas station and a tube and a bus will get you to Goldsmiths from there.

Getting around
Many Londoners don’t like the tube, but then if you spend every morning rammed between a window and a sweaty armpit for 45 minutes you might not be happy either. For everyone who travels outside rush hour the public transport system is pretty good with tube trains every two minutes or so and buses just about everywhere (with helpful maps at most stops and indicators that tell you when your next bus is due to arrive).
If you plan to do a lot of travelling around it might be worth buying an Oyster card. You have to pay a £2 for the card and then you can load it up with money (as much or as little as you want). However, when done you save significant amounts of money. A single Zone 1 ticket costs you £4 without an Oyster card and £1.60 with it. A bus journey is about half the price with an Oyster.
