Bridging the North-South Digital Divide
Presenter: Evelin Andrespok
Abstract: Internet has become the cornerstone of effectively functioning modern life in many countries. However, the fast digital developments of past decades have also created the problem of ‘digital divide’, which refers to the gap between different groups of people of societies in having physical access and the knowledge for being digital citizens. This discussion session will focus on the biggest global divide – the North-South digital divide. In particular, we will analyze the most effective ways for bridging this divide though civil society based social movements. A short grass-roots documentary on the topic will also be shown.
